A month later, you discovered... "Amaka don get belle...." Anything could have gone wrong with the pregnancy,... God forbid bad thing! After 9 months, a child was born.... A bouncing baby girl! "All thanks to God, the mother and child is safe!" In your heart, you wished it was a boy,.... "A girl child that will marry and bear her husband's name! Who will carry on my name!" Hello sir! No one remember anyone because of the gender of their child or children! Think of any great man we celebrate today, is it because of they have male children? Your service to humanity, ....the deployment of your gifts and talents to make life better....is what you will be remembered for! Martin Luther King jnr., Mother Theresa, Mahatma Gandhi, Queen Amina.......and many more.. We celebrate them, even after they were long gone! Let's say it is OK for your child to be great for YOUR SAKE,.... you have made sacrifices,...it is not easy nah.... Fine! Hello sir... Gender is inconsequential! See what Malala's father had to say during a speech after his daughter was shot by the Taliban: "In my part of the world, most people are known by their sons. I am one of the few lucky fathers known by his daughter" Malala too had this to say about her father: "I was lucky to be born to a father who respected my freedom of thought and expression and made me part of his peace caravan" Dadi wa,(our daddy), it isn't by gender! Your investment in the life of the child speaks volume -academically, morally, emotionally.... all ramifications! Dealing with teens who suffers low self esteem because their parents think of them less of a human or treat the boy child better breaks my heart! Low self esteem in teen is the bedrock of most challenges teens deal with...teen sex, drug abuse, bullying...yielding to negative peer pressure.... etc. "You better know how to cook well and clean the house, you will be married someday....if you don't learn all this, another woman will take him away from you!" The boy can watch TV, play all he likes.... How do you feel saying this to your very own daughter! It must really make you feel good! The Holy Writ says: "Male and female He created them!" Both gender is a dimension of God! How is this hard to understand? If you are a parent and you are on this table, please have a change of heart!
