One of the decisions I made(among others) when I was a teen was that I will educate my children rightly about their sexuality as at when due...
Having discussions on sexuality with most parents in those days wasn't an easy task..climbing Kilimanjairo mountain seems easier..
The first day I told my mum I needed a bra, you would think I had requested for a condom with the look on her face....lolzz!
They did their best with what they know and the resources at their disposal.... they had good intentions too.
My first menstruation happened when I was with one of my uncles during the holiday.
It wasn't a pleasant experience because I had inadequate knowledge of the whole thing..
The more I knew was what I overheard during a discussion two girls in my class when I was in JSS2.
If not for the fact that I knew there was no how my mum wouldn't find out it during subsequent ones, I wouldn't have had the gut to tell her....
Yesterday was the menstual hygiene day and I seized the opportunity to reinforced what I had taught my daughter on menstruation.
We already discussed what and what she should do anytime she experience her period for the first time, considering the likely places she could be, time and all that...using my experiences, other people's stories, role play and what have you over and over again.
One of the ways to teach your children about sensitive matters like sexuality is "seizing the moment" way...use what is trending or something of national interest to initiate a conversation.
Ignorance is no longer an excuse, don't wait till your child get the wrong information from peers or predator....
The predator thrives on the ignorance of the child!
