Less than two weeks to resumption after the "looonnng" holiday, it is normal for some parents to feel agitated especially because it is the beginning of a new session, which means new school for some children, for some, first time in school and obviously for most, new classes.
There is school fees to be paid, the early morning duties of getting set for school, packing lunch, eating breakfast so they could get to school on time to avoid punishment, rush hour traffic (especially in urban settlements), and lots more....
I was a guest on Citadel Arena with Enitan Ibironke on StarFM 101.1 yesterday discussing resumption tips for parents and schools.
Enitan Ibironke was such an amiable and amazing host, God bless you ma'am.
Some of the tips shared are:
*Plan ahead of time.
"He who fails to plan, definitely plan to fail!"
Take time and get the school calendar for the new term, mark out important dates, open days, PTA meeting day, career days and any other special occasions the school might be having.
Take for instance October 1st which is independent day, find out if there is any activity slated for the day and prepare ahead for costumes (green and white, probably), and also make plans to attend of if the need arises.
Allow your children wear their last term uniform to ensure it still fits, to avoid last minute rush, they grow so fast, after a lot of eating during the holiday.
Ensure all needed stationeries are bought, socks, swimming kits, karate, ballet wears etc are ready.
Visit the school and/or it's website and get all necessary information.
Update the school of new people authorized to pick your children.
Ensure all immunizations are up to date, inform the school if your child has any allergy and update on medical history for first timers.
Make adequate preparation for after school, whether they would go for a "after school program" or stay with a neighbour or stay at home all by themselves, depending on the age of the child.
Go over details of parents full name, phone number, home address etc with younger children.
Nutrition is essential, involve your children, draw the meal timetable and ensure all classes of food are inclusive, balanced diet is key!.
Ensure you enquire from the school the measures they have put in place for the safety of the child under their care #ChildProtectionPolicy.
"Early to bed, early to rise". At least a week to resumption, introduce earlier bed time. This will ensure adequate sleep and leave them waking up energised and ready for the day's activities.
Set goals, words of affirmation and pray.
Educate your children about their sexuality, the predator thrives on the ignorance of the child.
Empower your child and kick out the predator!
In all, involve the child in your preparations, engage and reason with them.
All decisions must be taken in the best interest of the child.
It shall end in praise.
What are you doing to prepare your children for resumption, please share....
